There used to be a limit on what a black man could do. Enter today and the mind of the black men is thriving with creativity. The sky isn't the limit, the moon is, and the black men is free to dream and reach for whatever he wants. Yes, there are things happening now but the fact is the mental barriers that were once there are slowly but surely unhinging. There is no one reaching beyond the sky and dreaming bigger than 20-year-old CEO and founder of KIDSxWeekendDrift Clothing, Dorian Morgan. This North Atlanta / Kennesaw resident started his line when he was 14.
1) Why did you start KIDS?
I started KIDS because of the lifestyle I was living and still am living; just partying, smoking weed, chilling with friends, and having a good time, basically living a carefree life with no stress. It's about working hard towards your goals. It's not all about getting fucked up going to parties either, it's also about living the life you choose to without caring what people think about you. Doing what you love in life, becoming successful.
WeekendDrift is the stoner part of the company. WeekendDrift is actually a subculture separate from KIDS but it's the same brand /company. WeekendDrift is all about going to your friend's house, smoking weed, going to house parties and just enjoying your weekend in general. I do something called WekendDrift Radio where I drop exclusive songs on SoundCloud, it's basically a stoner station where I drop mixes to rap music. WeekendDrift and KIDS are going to grow into a huge lifestyle brand.
2)Why did you center your brand around the carefree, artistic culture?
Because KIDS is like the movie Dazed and Confused, if you've ever seen it, it's a stoner classic. I just want everyone around me and the world, in general, to be happy. Life should be lit all the time! I feel like there are too many rules. I just want to have a huge impact on my generation in a positive way.
3)Who are your fashion and designer influences?
Converse; KIDS is heavily influenced by that brand. I want to do creative direction and other things for Converse. I feel like I could help them expand their brand or at least help them a lot. I also fuck with Tommy Hilfiger and Jeremy Scott.
4)How has your clothing brand changed from when you were 14 to now and how do you think it will change when you get older?
The design thought process is very different. I feel like when I’m in a better place in life, my designs will get better.
5)You currently have two products out. Do you plan on releasing more items soon, if so what?
I’m releasing a shirt and visual next month, however, I don’t have a date yet.
6)Why did you choose “KIDS” as your brand name?
Because of the carefree lifestyle and the thought of not having to stress about a lot of stuff in life.
7)What’s the goal for KIDS and where do you hope to see it within the next few
years?
I want KIDS to be one of the biggest lifestyle brands ever! I honestly just want to have a huge impact on my generation and the youth. I feel like this generation is the future.
8)Who drew the designs for your shirts?
McFlyy and Jonny RSVP
9) Other than fashion what else do you do?
I manage two music artist, FuccBoyRich and Kreep. I skateboard and I just like having a good time, chilling with friends, experiencing new things in life, and traveling. I want to have a loft in California one day.
10) I know you started when you were 14 but when did you start really selling items and when did it go from dream to business?
It's always ways been a dream and a business from the start.
11)How is your brand different from all the other carefree, skater vibe lines out there and why should people buy your products?
It's different because KIDS x WeekendDrift is its own thing it's not a wave its not something that's temporary this brand is going to be around forever
12) Are you trying to start a movement with your company?
A lifestyle movement. I want to go on a house party tour.
KIDS is the voice for a group of individuals who are usually given a negative image, for that he is a revolutionary. KIDS clothing is stylish and is exactly what a culture who is changing the perception of weed needs.
