A Dream Coming True

Have you ever listened to a song that completely captured every emotion you felt? Every lyric had you screaming to the top of your lungs; finally, the emotions you couldn't express were expressed. The same way a song's lyrics capture emotion so can an artist with a city. Outkast and other artist capture Atlanta, Chance and Kanye capture Chi-Town and so an. Today I want to introduce you an artist who is capturing Detroit and bringing a passionate sound to rap music.

His name is B-Free, a 21-year- artist representing his city with some straight bangers. His music is exciting, energetic and full of uniqueness. I'm not sure if you can put it in a genre but it's definitely the furthest thing from chill. His music will get you hype. If you're into sleepy jazz rap don't come here. His music is aggressive and full of intense vocals and crazy beats.

He started rapping at the age of 6 or 7, "It just seemed like the right thing to do. It was almost second nature like I was supposed to do it." He's been rapping 3 years and pulls inspiration from his family and childhood. You can hear this in the hook and the beginning of the song "Take Me Back". With every song, B-Free basically narrates the stories and situations his family has been through or ones he sees first hand.

Because of this, his sound is genuine tracks like "More Than We Asked For" display this in full effect. There's a refreshing quality about it. It's like when you listen to his music you can feel his love for rap. That passion matches the energy he puts into every song, you won't find that anywhere else. "I just make what I feel, I know it sounds cliche, but whenever my producer Bert plays a beat it just feels right and I'll immediately come up with what I want to say."

Artist like B-Free make me excited about the future of rap. He and other Detroit artist like Curtis Roach, and Jay Squared are defying what's "in trend" in today's rap community and instead, doing things their own way. Rap is about expression and artist like B-free, who are pretty young, show that, contrary to popular belief, rap music is thriving, especially in Detroit. I for one am very excited to hear new music from his mixtape "Menace in Paradise" whenever it drops.
