Curtis Roach, A Classic

You remember the first time you discovered your favorite artist? I'm talking about before they were famous. You remember how the music made you feel? Instantly you made the "this shit is dope face". You listened to song after song and somewhere between a verse and a hook you were like "Man ... this (insert term) is gonna be famous.

Maybe for you it was Kendrick, or Chance or maybe it was Future or the Migos but whoever it was you knew, you could feel it. Something about that artist was different.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the artist that's gonna make you relive those emotions and instantly send you into the "this shit is dope face" CURTIS ROACH.

From his flow, to his lyricism this Detroit-based artist embodies rap music and carries it in a way similar to Andre. His approach is light, natural, fun, and completely his own.

If you're really into the new sound that is popular with most artist out today or the boom-bat Mos Def hip-hop era then don't listen to Curtis. He's more in the Kendrick, Chance, Cole, Amine category. He's one of those rappers making music that doesn't fit into a decade.

He got his start in middle school writing poetry then, when he got to high school he began rapping. "I was always a hip-hop head. My dad introduced me to all kinds of hip-hop at a young age. By the time I was five I was already reciting lyrics from Me Against The World, Ready to Die, Doggystyle, The Chronic and other hip hop classics however, I didn't start rapping until in 10th grade when I bought a microphone with the money I saved from Christmas. That's when I started putting stuff out."

This musical upbringing, along with his love for lyricism, has truly shaped his sound/message. His sound is like a mixture of Joey, The Pharcyde, Logic and Chance's mixtape: Acid Rap. He delivers some serious verses with really fun, catchy, and smooth flows/ beats while also adding a uniqueness and a light jazzy feel that can only come from a Detroit artist.

You can really hear this on his newest single Extra Friez

As for his message Curtis represents something that is much needed in today's hip-hop culture; positivity. "My whole goal isn't to get famous but to change the world, and inspire the youth. A lot of music lacks that, and I wanna bring something different to the table."

He is definitely doing that, especially in the song New Day off his latest album Smile Always. His music documents his story and he spits about what is important to him and what he wants. His music is encouraging, raw and real.

As Curtis said "I do this for the love of hip-hop.", and it shows.

Curtis Roach is a classic. Get on his music now before he blows up.
